Gearing up for 2018 TAA Convention
Howdy TAA Members,
We are gearing up for our 2018 Annual Convention. I am excited to see it all come together. Not only is it here in Aggieland, but we have some amazing things going on with it. For those of you Aggies out there, you know its always nice to come home for a visit, and for those that have never been here, Aggieland is a great place to come visit.
Our speakers committee has but together top notch professionals to speak during the convention, so do not miss out. And I’m so excited to help start our new Texas Certified Auction Professional program, which will be on the front end of convention this year. TAA strives to help everyone succeed in the auction business, and this is just one more way that we help new auctioneers, and anyone in the business grow their company. This year topics include: Ringman skills, Chant skills, Marketing, Audio/Video, Real Estate, and of course everyone’s favorite Auction LAW.
So mark your calendar and get signed up to attend this year’s convention. You won’t want to miss the fun, the fellowship, and the education. Sign ups this year will start soon and be managed thru an EventBrite page which should streamline the process for everyone.
See y’all in Aggieland! WHOOP!

Praise God for our Friends
We had another auctioneer who went to be with the Lord on May 1st, 2017. Our good friend, Bob Manning, was called home after a brief illness. Bob faithfully served the Fellowship of Christin Auctioneers International (FCAI), NAA, TAA, and was a strong supporter of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, (TSRHC). Everyone enjoyed seeing Bob at the NAA & TAA conventions. Whenever we arrived, Bob and Nancy were already there greeting not only their friends but anyone who attended. Bob was a member of the TAA Hall of Fame.
I was honored when Nancy asked me to conduct the services for Bob. Auctioneers from across the U.S. attended the funeral. Memorials may be sent to TSRHC or FCAI. Please keep Nancy and the family in your prayers.
Jesus gives the promise of eternal life.
In John II vs 25 & 26, Jesus said
“I am the resurrection and the life: he that believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And who so ever lives and believes in Me shall never die.”
Than in verse 35, scripture states,
“Jesus wept”.
Jesus had lost his friend, Lazarus. Jesus had come to comfort his friends, Mary and Martha who had lost their brother.
Farmers and Ranchers need your prayers. After two years of low commodity and cattle prices, many will be forced to go out of business if economical conditions do not improve. The cattle we sold in 2014 brought around $1400 per head. The ones we sold recently brought $700.00 per head. An Auctioneer we work with lost approximately $500,000 last year.
It was great to see everyone at the TAA convention. Rick Stroud read a list of deceased Texas Auctioneers at the Tuesday night banquet. We have lost so many friends over the years. We celebrated TAA’s 60th anniversary.
Congratulations to Lori Lemons Campbell who was inducted into the TAA Hall of Fame.
T.J. Freije, who won the NAA Auctioneer’s contest, was one of our speakers at the convention. He gave his testimony and shared his faith.
We missed Henry and Pat Storey who attended 51 consecutive TAA conventions. They are doing fine.
If you have a soldier deployed overseas, let us know. We send out care packages to them. If you would like to be on the FCAI e-mail list, send us your e-mail address.

New TAA President || Lance Swigert
Howdy TAA Members,
It is an honor to be writing to you as the new President of the association. For those of you that don’t know me, I have been in the auction business now for 28 years. -And Yes I’m only 34. Dad started our company in 1989, and I started as the ticket runner at 6 years old. I got my associate auctioneers license at some point, then went to Texas Auction Academy in the summer of 2005, and soon after received my full license. I’ve been working for our auction company now full time since 2010.
I can’t be more proud of the people that I have worked with over my time on the board. Our association has made leaps and bounds to become better ambassadors for our industry, despite the setbacks we overcome. The people I have served with in the past, currently serve with, and the presidents I follow, have set our association and our industry up for success. In the time I’ve been on the board, the association has brought about many benefits including: tangible monetary member benefits; our association operating in the black throughout the year; top notch continuing education seminars for convention; and most recently begun strategies to advertise to the general population about the auction industry and specifically help market TAA auctioneers.
One of my goals for this year is to see our marketing grow in two facets. I have rearranged our board committees and created two distinct committees who can focus our marketing efforts. One committee will be our PR committee to auctioneers. They will be tasked with making sure that all auctioneers in the state know why they should be members of the TAA. The second committee is tasked with our PR to the general public. They are tasked with finding ways that the TAA can help promote the auction industry and our auctioneer members. If you have not see the PR video the association had made, make sure and visit www.taavideo.com and watch it. Then share the video, put it on your website, and use it as you see fit to advertise yourself and the auction method. This was created for our membership to benefit from.
Another one of my goals for this year is to create better communication and networking between our board members. We do a great job working together as a team, and so creating easier, and more efficient lines of communication will only help us work together, and more importantly help us be more productive and serve you better.
We as the board are here to serve our members and we need you input. As you hopefully have seen, there is a survey included in this edition of the newsletter. Please take time to either fill that survey out on the paper, or go online and fill it out. We want and need your input.
I look forward to serving as your President this year and am excited about the changes that we can make in our association and our industry in the next 12 months. If myself or any board member can help you out, please reach out to us.
Put it on your calendar now! TAA Convention 2018- College Station, Texas—- May 6-8, 2018. You need to be there
President Lance Swigert
